Domaine Ollieux-Romanis Lo Petit Fantet d'Hippolyte Blanc 2020
Ollieux Romanis is a magnificent property with a huge winery nestling at the centre of its vines. Built in 1896; these buildings were built from stone quarried from within the property and they still stand proud today. Their first parcel of Carignan was planted in 1896, and it is still used for production of grapes today. The Carignan grape variety has become the leitmotif of the Bories family, and more specifically Pierre (Cousin of Amandine of Les Bories Jefferies) - Pierre’s mother, Jacqueline, who was the winemaker in the 1970’s resisted all the hype that grew up in the 1970’s around the Syrah grape, and highlighted the Carignan grape in her wines. It is still the case for Pierre and his team.
A blend of Roussanne, Marsanne, the two local white grapes of the region with a splash of Grenache. The heat of this Southerly location really translates into the wine, and the grapes handle it well. The colour is intensely golden, and it follows the fruit character steers towards full ripeness; apricot, papaya and banana. Big tropical wine which holds up well alongside other bold flavours.
Roussane (40%), Marsanne (35%), Grenache Blanc (25%)
