Iuli Umberta 2019
Fabrizio Iuli who runs Cascina Iuli, and identifies as a Barberista (a lover of the Barbera grape) farms his 30 ha of vines, spread over 18 different parcels each with their own terroirs and micro climates, but all prominently featuring limestone and other calcareous soils. The isolation of their vineyard also allows for Fabrizio to protect the biodiversity of his vineyards which have never seen the use of chemicals (with Fabrizio being the 3rd generation in his family to work the vineyard). Umberta is made after letting the grapes macerate for 2 weeks before pressing, and they are aged in a selection of small concrete tanks that Fabrizio loves to collect and restore. A slightly brighter than typical Barbera, with a fine balance of gentle fruit and spice.
