Chanudet La Cuvee Du Chat 2020
Chateau Cambon was bought by Marcel Lapierre and Jean Claude Chanudet in 1995 and they began the daunting task of restoring the estate from a bankrupt chateau in disrepair to a working winery and vineyard. Since Marcel’s death in 2010, it is now owned and administered by Marcel’s wife, Marie, and son, Mathieu, in association with Jean Claude Chanudet.
The vines used to make this wine used to belong to Jules Chauvet; one
of the first winemakers to promote Sulphur free wine production, and a mentor to Marcel Lapierre. Marie and Jean Claude bought the tiny 2.5ha parcel in 2010. The wine is named Cuvée du Chat after Jean Claude Chanudet whose nickname is ‘Le Chat’
Whole bunch, semi-carbonic maceration in neutral vats before transferring to oak for 9 months before bottling. They decide to release the wine as a Vin De France so they can focus on highlighting the terroirs and the grape without worrying about the appellation laws that a Cru Beaujolais is expected to adhere to. The label was designed by famous French political cartoonist Maurice Sinet (working under the moniker "Sine") who was a long standing columnist at Charlie Hebdo and a close friend of Marcel and Marie Lapierre.
